Preschool
Purpose
The purpose of Orchard Drive Preschool is to minister to the community by providing a school facility with an emphasis on Christian principles. We seek to promote a God-centered approach to life and learning. We believe that the Bible is the infallible Word of God. We believe that the quality of early childhood education is improved by the instruction and influence of Christian teachers. Orchard Drive Preschool will operate as an outreach ministry of Brookings Wesleyan Church and will operate as a nonprofit organization and in compliance with constitutional and state and local agencies.
Goals
In a Christian atmosphere, our goal is to provide educational experiences for children in the following areas: self-reliance, sociability, physical skills, creativity, language and concept development and character development. Orchard Drive Preschool does not discriminate based on race, color, age, national or ethnic origin, gender or disability.
Curriculum
A Christian concept and/or Biblical story will be taught each day. The preschool is also divided into different learning areas to allow a range of educational experiences. The areas are: discovery (science concepts), dramatic play, language and math, reading/quiet time and art. Children are encouraged to participate in each on a daily basis.
Dates of School
Dates of the preschool will generally coincide with the Brookings Public School calendar. Each day is divided into a morning and afternoon class.
Student Requirements
Children attending the Tuesday-Thursday class must be 3 years old on or before September 1. Children attending the Monday-Wednesday-Friday class should be 4 years old on or before September 1st and preparing for kindergarten the following year. Children must be toilet-trained prior to attending preschool. All vaccinations should be up-to-date.
Clothing
Children should be dressed in comfortable, practical clothing that is appropriate for finger painting and mud pie making. Clothing should also be appropriate for changing weather conditions as we try to go outside daily.
Illness
If your child shows any sign of illness, please keep him/her home in consideration of other children. If you decide to keep your child home, a phone call would be appreciated.
Snacks
A daily nutritious snack is provided at the preschool. Parents are encouraged to sign up to bring a snack about once a month.
Tuition
There will be a registration fee of $20 per year, per student. This is non-refundable. Tuition will be assessed by the semester. Parents may choose one of two options:
1. One payment of $320 (MWF class) or $280 (TTH class) for the first semester due by September 1st. A second payment of $400 (MWF class) or $350 (TTH class) for the second semester due by January 1st. Supplies included.
2. Equal monthly payments of $80 (MWF) class or $70 (TTH class) due by the 1st of each month. Supplies included.
A late fee of $5.00 will be assessed for payments received after the 15th of the month. In the event that a child is absent from school, tuition must be paid in full in order to reserve the child’s spot. If the child is absent due to an extended illness, tuition may be prorated at the discretion of the Orchard Drive Preschool Board.
