Small Groups
What are small groups?
Small groups meet weekly at BWC or in someone’s home for fellowship, Bible study and prayer. They are for adults of all ages, stages of life and spiritual maturity.
Do the groups have both married couples and singles?
Most groups are open to both married couples and singles, but there are some gender-specific groups and some groups geared to single college students and young adults.
Is childcare provided for each group meeting?
Children whose parents are in a group that meets on Wednesday nights are invited to stay in our nursery or attend our Wesleyan Kids, Planet 56 or youth activities. For groups that meet at other times, childcare is not provided, but we can assist with childcare costs. For groups that meet on Sundays, nursery care and other classes/activities are provided.
When and where do groups meet?
Sunday Discipleship Classes meet during our morning services and Midweek Discipleship Groups meet during the week, usually in the evening. A few groups meet during the day. Groups either meet at the church or in a member’s home.
How often do groups meet?
Most groups normally meet weekly during the school year and many take a summer break.
How long do groups last?
After the initial study is completed, the group decides whether or not to continue. Most groups meet for at least a year, but some are as short as 8-10 weeks.
How long does each meeting last?
For Sunday Discipleship Classes, the length of the class is determined by the length of the service (about an hour). Midweek Discipleship Groups that meet on Wednesday nights meet for an hour. For other groups, the members decide the length of time they will meet. Most meet for an hour and a half to two hours.
What goes on at a group meeting?
Because of time constraints, Sunday Discipleship Classes focus most of their time on the study, with some prayer as well. For Midweek Discipleship Classes, there is also some social time.
What do they study?
Groups study a book of the Bible or a particular topic like grace or the fruits of the Spirit. Some groups study Biblical principles for finances, parenting or marriage. Others are geared to helping people dealing with issues like divorce, loss of a loved one or addictions.
